Liberty Hall Historic Site

Liberty Hall Historic Site, four acres of landscaped gardens and grounds located on the banks of the Kentucky River in downtown Frankfort, showcases two fine examples of early Kentucky architecture, Liberty Hall (1796) built by John Brown and the Orlando Brown House (1835) designed by Gideon Shryock. Images of Kentucky-crafted furniture, portraits, and paintings that furnish these two homes are now being added to KOAR. All but one are from a private collection assembled over the course of three decades, beginning in the late 1970s. Kentucky Historical Society: Paul Sawyier

More than 120 of the Kentucky Historical Society's collection of works by Paul Sawyier are now included in KOAR. Sawyier, best known for his impressionistic landscapes of Franklin County and nearby regions in Kentucky, during his final years also worked in New York City and the Catskill Mountains. KOAR recently grew to include over fifteen examples of Kentucky and Kentucky-related silver drawn from the state's finest private collection of silver. The pieces include the work of well-known smiths such as Lexington's Asa Blanchard and also work by lesser-known artisans like Charles Plimpton. Little Fine Arts Library: The Harlan Hubbard Image Collection
